Reading the YC RFS Like an Investor

Don't pick an RFS category and 'come up with an idea.' Read the RFS to understand the partner's thesis, then bring your own evidence.

Origin: Pattern observed across YC partner office hours.

Each RFS line is a partner's bet on a market shift. The 'AI for Agriculture' line isn't 'build AI for farms' — it's 'this partner believes edge AI + EU regulation makes this an inflection point in 2026.'

Application strategy: pick the RFS where you already have an unfair advantage (domain expertise, customer access, technical edge). Apply with that, even if your specific idea isn't word-for-word in the RFS.

YC funds founders, not categories. The RFS is a hint about what they'll pattern-match positively to.
